In just over 10 years of practice, Shantel has litigated complex civil and criminal cases for people throughout Louisiana. She is currently admitted to practice in all state courts in Louisiana, as well as federal courts for the Western District of Louisiana.

Born and raised in Chackbay, Louisiana, Shantel is the daughter of Dane Wempren, an alligator hunter and commercial fisherman, and Sandra Wempren, who dedicated her career to working in school cafeterias. Growing up in a family that valued hard work and community, Shantel developed a strong sense of justice and a desire to serve others.

Shantel graduated from Thibodaux High School in 2003 and went on to attend Northwestern State University. During her time at university, she was an active member of the Student Government Association, serving as Vice President from 2005 to 2006 and later as President from 2006 to 2007. In 2007, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree, becoming the first person in her family to graduate from college—an achievement that demonstrated her determination and commitment to education.

After gaining experience in the legal community, Shantel applied to Southern University Law School, where she continued to balance her studies with work by enrolling in the part-time evening program. In the summer of 2012, she expanded her horizons by studying abroad in London, further enriching her legal education. While at Southern University, she made significant contributions to academic discourse, authoring two scholarly articles for the Journal of Race, Gender, and Poverty and the Law Review. In December 2013, Shantel earned her Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center.

Admitted to the Louisiana Bar in May 2014, Shantel began her legal career specializing in beverage alcohol and gaming licensing, practicing in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

In 2015, she returned to her roots in Natchitoches, where her career took a pivotal turn. In 2017, Shantel was appointed as an Assistant District Attorney for Natchitoches Parish, where she served as the "Parish Attorney," providing legal guidance to the Natchitoches Parish Government and Parish Planning Commission. She later transitioned to the role of prosecutor, where she successfully tried both misdemeanor and felony cases until the fall of 2021.

Since then, Shantel has focused her practice primarily on personal injury law as a plaintiff’s lawyer, continuing her commitment to advocating for those in need.

She is a member of the Louisiana Association for Justice, where she actively engages with fellow legal professionals and promotes justice within the community.

Throughout her career, Shantel has earned a reputation as an aggressive advocate and an accomplished litigator. Her ability to navigate complex legal issues, combined with her unwavering dedication to her clients, has made her a respected leader in the legal field.
